2. | Steven OSBORN was born on 24 Feb 1634 in Ashford, County Kent, England (son of Thomas OSBORN and Mary GOATLY); died in Jul 1698 in Elizabeth Town. Notes:
Stephen Osborne, son of Thomas Osborne & Mary Goatly, came to American with his parents and lived with them in New Haven and In East Hampton. He moved to Elizabeth Towin in 1664 and as a 1st Purchaser (Eliz. Bill in Chancery, p. 113-114) became one of the Associates (HHE p. 58), and had first lot rights (HHE p.243). He signed a petition for a new survey ca. Dec. 1667 (HHE p. 122).
Stephen Osburne, a freeholder, was a member of the first jury, and as Steven Ozbun took the oath of allegian to the Dutch 11 September 1673 (HHE p. 136, 159). He was warranted for 160 acres 12 January 1671, and for a survey of 180 acres 08 April 1676 (Eliz. Bill in Chancery, p. 106).
An Indian deed of 1684 states that Stephen Osburn's land was along the Minisink Path and Wickakicke Creek (NHA 21:73).
In the list of quitrent sowin gin 1685 for Elizabeth Town is Stephen Osborn (from 1670) on 160 acres (NJHP, New Series, 15:239); and again in 1696 for Essex County, Massachusetts (Ibid., p. 378). In the inventory of the estateof John Blanchard of Elizabeth Town, 27 April 1730, are listed those from whom bonds are due, including Stephen Osbourn (NJA 30:48).
Presumably this would apply to the estate of Stephen Osborne.
Stephen Osborne of Elizabeth Town in his will dated 12 July 1694, proved 20 July 1698, names wife Sarah, sons Jeremiah and Josiah; daughters, Mary wife of Joseph Frasey, Sarah wife of John Cramer, martha, Rebecca, and Abigail; brothers Joseph Osborn and Josiah Stanbrough (NJA 21:287).
Steven married Sarah STANBOROUGH. Sarah (daughter of Josiah STANBOROUGH and Frances GRANDSDEN) was born about 1635 in England; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
