    • Sarah C. Croy's large Bible
      - notes here were taken by John Dencoff.
      This is a very large and impressive Bible, with several historical
      notes. It is in p oor condition today (Aug 2002), having been through a
      major flood in the 1950 s in Albuquerque, NM. The leather cover is
      inscribed:
      The Holy Bible, conta ining the old and new testaments, translated out of
      the original tongues, wit h Cruden's Complete Concordance, embracing every
      passage of scripture in the largest editions, comprehensive Bible
      dictionary, ... and an illustrated comp lete history of each book.
      Rockford, IL, Chandler Brothers, copyrights 1872, 1873, 1875, and 1877
      Library of Congress. "Sarah C. Croy" is etched in gold letters on the
      cover.
      The presentation page has the following, handwritten:
      "Presented to Jennie Rosetta Croy, Kerksville Missouri, by Sarah C. Croy,
      K erksville Missouri".
      History of this Bible -
      Sarah C. Croy gave this Bible t o Jennie Rosetta "Rose" (Croy) Myers,
      probably before Rose's marriage to Pete r Eugene Myers. Rose then gave it
      to her son (Edgar Taylor Myers) and his wi fe (Alma Louise [Findley]
      Myers). From Alma, it was given to her daughter, G loria D. (Myers)
      Dencoff. This Bible is currently owned by Gloria D. Dencoff .

      "We will start mondy [sp] night. I found Paw at Macon Co. ho".*
      *Interpr etation: Peter went to northern MO in order to find his father,
      Zachary Tayl or Myers. Once found, it was believed that he brought him
      back to live with his family (until Z.T. Myers died the following year.
      The "Macon co. ho" is believed to refer to a house or hotel in Macon
      county.
